New York does not slow down for the last stretch of summer, and this week's calendar proves it. Between horn sections warming up in Harlem, yoga mats unrolling at sunset, and a lawn full of moviegoers in Brooklyn, there is a reason to leave the apartment most nights through August 30.

Here is the rundown, in order.

Monday, August 24

  • Monday Night Jam: Kim Clarke, Roxy Coss & Anita Rush — The National Jazz Museum in Harlem hosts its regular Monday session, 6–9 PM, with a rotating cast of serious players trading solos in a room built for exactly that.

Tuesday, August 25

  • Sunset Yoga — Pier 3 Central Lawn at Brooklyn Bridge Park turns into an open-air studio from 6–7 PM, with the Manhattan skyline as the backdrop. Free.
  • Myles Smith: My Mess, My Heart, My Life Tour with Michael Marcagi — Central Park SummerStage hosts the touring bill from 7–10 PM.

Wednesday, August 26

  • Jazz in the Garden: Xiomara Laugart feat. Reverse Audio — El Sol Brillante in the East Village hosts an early-evening set, 5:30–6:30 PM, in one of the neighborhood's community gardens.

Thursday, August 27

  • Marcus Printup Quintet — Jazz at Lincoln Center — A free-flowing outdoor set lands at Broadway and 46th Street in Times Square, 5–7 PM, bringing Lincoln Center's programming straight into the crossroads of the world.
  • Movies With A View: Public Choice — Harbor View Lawn at Brooklyn Bridge Park runs its long-standing summer series, 6–11 PM, with the audience picking the film. Free.
Bring a blanket, bring an early dinner, and let the city do the rest.

What ties the week together is range: a Harlem jam session steeped in history, a garden set tucked into the East Village, a stadium-scale concert in Central Park, and two free outdoor gatherings on the Brooklyn waterfront. Whether the plan is a quiet Wednesday evening or a full Tuesday double-header, the week offers a version of New York worth stepping outside for.

Check exact start times before heading out, and consider arriving early for the free events — waterfront lawns and garden courtyards tend to fill up fast once word gets around.
